Thriving in Our 50s: A Holistic Approach to the New Year

Thriving in Our 50s: A Holistic Approach to the New Year

As we enter our mid-life, embracing a well-rounded approach to health and wellness becomes paramount for a fulfilling and vibrant life.

Here are three key areas to focus on as we step into the new year: fitness, nutrition, and personal development.

  • Fitness Goals: Weightlifting and Core Strength

  • Incorporating weightlifting into our fitness routine can be transformative. It not only helps build and maintain muscle mass, which tends to decline with age, but it also boosts metabolism and improves bone density.

  • Core strength is the foundation for overall stability and balance. Engage in exercises targeting the core muscles, such as planks and standing balancing poses to enhance posture and reduce the risk of injuries.

This month I continue to teach my barre, Pilates and core classes (my first love)  and additionally I’m adding in a weightlifting program that I’m not teaching but taking- if you are interested in joining me for it- shoot me a message.

  • Nutrition Goals: Proper Protein Consumption and Hydration with Electrolytes

  • Adequate protein intake becomes increasingly important in our 50s to support muscle maintenance and repair. It’s important to include lean protein sources like fish, poultry, beans, and tofu into our diets.

  • I also LOVE Perfect Aminos- they give you adequate protein building blocks with almost no calories and no sugar- (THEY WILL NOT BREAK YOUR FAST- if you are intermittent fasting)

  • Hydration is key for overall well-being.  We must ensure that we are not just drinking water but also replenishing electrolytes, especially if you're engaged in regular physical activity. Coconut water and electrolyte-rich supplements are critical- especially after workouts to replenish electrolyte balance.

  • My favorite is LMNT- it replenishes sodium, potassium and magnesium and has no sugar or gluten.  My personal favorite flavor is grapefruit, followed by watermelon.  (Orange and raspberry close behind).  Grab a FREE sample pack with ANY PURCHASE using this code - you won’t regret it!!  (The sample pack will be added to your order).

Let me know if you try it and what you think.

I take it first thing in the morning to replenish what I’ve lost overnight and before I go to bed - the added magnesium is a great support for better sleep!!!  (More on better sleep soon)

  • Personal Development Goals: Goal Setting and Self-Care

  • Set specific and realistic goals for the new year, both personally and professionally. Whether it's learning a new skill, pursuing a passion, or achieving a fitness milestone, clear goals provide direction and motivation.

  • Prioritize self-care. This includes ample sleep, stress management, and mindfulness practices. Cultivate a positive mindset and make time for activities that bring joy and relaxation- I love Breathwork, meditation, cold plunging, journaling, listening to great books or podcasts to help me toward my goals.

  • Here is a great book that I’ve listened to lately- loved it!

As we integrate  these three pillars—fitness, nutrition, and personal development—we will navigate the new year with resilience, strength, and a holistic focus on well-being. Embrace the journey and celebrate the achievements along the way, fostering a healthier and happier you.  And, as always- I’ll be right here by your side- leading by example.

Let me know if you need anything. ❤️

With Love from my Core,

Amity
