Honoring Veterans Today and Everyday

Today we celebrate Veterans Day. This day serves as a profound reminder of the sacrifices and bravery of our veterans, many of whom have deeply touched our lives, for me, this includes members of my own family.

Both of my grandfathers, my mom’s dad and my dad’s dad served in World War II.   While they never really talked about it, (and I don’t blame them for not wanting to relive the life changing moments) the thought of their courage and resilience has always amazed me.

I vividly recall the powerful and moving 21-gun salute at my paternal grandfather’s funeral—a moment that was both heart-wrenching and deeply prideful. The salute was not just a gesture; it was a profound acknowledgment of the service and sacrifice that defined his life and those of his fellow soldiers.  In those moments, the emotions that came over me were unparalleled.  I had goosebumps and tears and I’d never been more proud of my grandpa than I was in that moment.  I wish I could have only told him that when he was alive.  My sister will tell you the same thing.  She even goes as far as saying- that moment changed her life.  She knew from that moment on she would do better and BE better.  (She was around 18 years old- and she did in fact, do better and was in fact, BETTER).

Veterans Day is a day dedicated not just to remembrance but also to appreciation. It’s a moment for all of us to pause and reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the individuals who've made them possible. On this day, we take the time to truly think about all the veterans who have served our country. We find ways to express our gratitude, whether through a simple thank you, participating in commemorative events, or sharing stories of the incredible people who have served.

The significance of this day lies in its ability to connect us with our past while inspiring us to contribute positively to our future. By appreciating the unwavering dedication of veterans, we reinforce the values of courage, honor, and service. It’s an opportunity for younger generations to learn these important lessons and for all of us to reflect on our own contributions and responsibilities.

Today, and every day, let's take a moment to honor the courage and dedication of all who have served. Whether it's a veteran in your family or a stranger you've never met, their sacrifices have shaped our world in immeasurable ways. If you're able, reach out to a veteran and let them know how grateful you are for their service. Attend a local event, share a story, or simply take a moment of silence in their honor. May we never forget the bravery and sacrifice of those who have fought for our freedom.

I’m a supporter of T2T (Tunnels to Towers).  If you are looking for a way to honor a catastrophically injured veteran or first responder- here is a link to check out- I believe in this organization.

With gratitude and love from my core, Amity ❤️
