Ah, the holiday season! For most of us, it’s a time of joy, laughter, and, let’s face it, a little chaos. With an uptick of parties, shopping lists, and late-night festivities, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But don't worry, here are five simple yet effective ways to stay grounded and merry through the holidays:
1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Kickstart your morning by hydrating your body. As soon as you awaken, grab that glass of water you thoughtfully placed by your bedside table. Slam it. After a night of dreaming, breathing and sweating, your body craves hydration. Aim for at least 80 ounces of water each day. Not only will this help you stay refreshed, but it will also help to keep your holiday stress levels at bay.
2. Move Your Body!
Finding time to exercise during the holiday rush can feel like a luxury, but incorporating daily movement doesn’t have to be daunting. Intentionally move your body every day, even if it’s just a brisk walk around the block. Challenge yourself with mini-games: hold a plank three times a day or drop down for ten quick push-ups whenever you think of it. These small bursts of activity can make a significant difference and keep you feeling strong and energized.
3. End your shower on COLD
Here’s a fun way to boost your energy—finish your shower with a splash of cold water. Start with 30 seconds and gradually increase up to THREE minutes. The invigorating chill not only wakes you up but also does wonders for your vitality and resilience. And, mentally getting through this challenge everyday will assure you that YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!
4. Engage in Meditation or Breath Work
Make meditation or breath work part of your morning and evening rituals. To relax and down-regulate, ensure your exhale is longer than your inhale. Need an energy boost? Try short, quick breaths, focusing on a longer inhale. Don’t overthink it—just breathe through your nose as much as possible throughout the day. A little mindful breathing can go a long way in maintaining peace amidst holiday hustle.
5. Stay Accountable
Accountability is key! Find a partner or group and share your daily successes and consistency with them. No one around? No problem. Writing in a journal is an amazing way to stay consistent and track your progress. Remember, perfection isn’t the goal—progress is. If you stumble, don’t throw your hands up in defeat. Keep moving forward and do the best you can.
Embrace these simple yet powerful strategies, and let the holidays be a time of joy and connection instead of stress and exhaustion. Stay merry, stay bright, stay CONSISTENT and enjoy each moment of this magical season!
